RenEco Delivers Sustainable CO2 Shipment in Partnership with Avara

RenEco has successfully completed the first delivery of sustainably produced carbon dioxide (CO2) to leading poultry producer Avara Foods, marking a milestone in the shift toward greener industrial solutions and circular economy practices.

Unlike the majority of CO2 used in the UK, which is typically imported from Europe and produced as a by-product of fossil fuel-based fertiliser manufacturing, RenEco’s CO2 is derived from domestically sourced sustainable feedstocks including poultry manure. Through advanced anaerobic digestion technology, RenEco transforms food and agricultural wastes into a range of valuable outputs, including energy directly to the grid, biofuel and food-grade CO2.

Poultry manure has long been recognised for its fertiliser potential, but RenEco’s process goes further by capturing the untapped energy and environmental benefits of this resource. By producing sustainable CO2 and renewable fuels, RenEco is not only reducing the environmental impact but actively supporting more resilient, local supply chains.

The collaboration with Avara is the latest example of how RenEco’s innovative approach is helping the UK food and drink industry reduce its dependence on imported and carbon-intensive CO2. With demand for CO2 remaining high across multiple sectors, RenEco’s sustainable model offers both environmental and logistical advantages.

The move also reflects a growing awareness of the vulnerabilities in traditional CO2 supply, highlighted during the 2021 shortages. By sourcing CO2 closer to home and with significantly lower carbon impact, RenEco and Avara aim to build a more stable and sustainable foundation for future supply.

“Our experience over the last five years has shown that a well-designed sustainability agenda brings commercial opportunities and benefits – and this is just one example. CO2 is a critical resource in our business, so if there’s an opportunity to protect that supply, unlock value, all with a smaller logistics footprint, in a circular economy that uses our poultry manure, we’re going to take it.” - Andrew Brodie, Director for People & Sustainability Avara Foods.
